A FIVE STAR I S R S AUDITING SUCCESS STORY
Dominic J. Brignola, Jr.
F.A.C.F.E., A.S.A., C.S.E.The graph below represents an historical analysis of how accidents, incidents, losses are reduced over time with the proper implementation of a comprehensive loss control organizational management program auditing system. The audit system at the time developed by Mr. Frank E. Bird, Jr., P.E., C.S.P. and various member A.S.A. Auditor's (Accredited Safety Auditors) of the International Society of Accredited Safety Auditors, comprised of 22 management program elements with over 400+ questions and sub-systems embedded within the various sub-elements (listed below). The Five Star Graph depicts the actual BLS Accident rate reduction of a 114-acre, 750 employee 3 plant manufacturing facility. The company received several annual insurance company worker's comp. premium rebates during this period. As the level of safety and loss control programs increased, the accidents (injuries) and incidents (near miss) including property damage, decreased. The stars correlate with the advanced levels within the International Safety Rating System© (5 star I S R S Audit System) and the rating received during the audited period and the percentage rates for program implementation progress. 179 union hourly and facility management within various departments played a key role assisting the company, as the first company in the world to achieve the prestigious Five Star Advanced Level Award for Organizational Safety, Health, and Environmental Loss Control Program Management Excellence, within a manufacturing organization. There were more than 3,500 member companies world wide within the (I S R S Program and Audit System) and many fortune 500 companies as well. At the time, The President of Global Loss Control Dominic (Nick) Brignola, F.A.C.F.E., A.S.A., C.S.E., was Property Conservation/Safety Manager and Program Coordinator of the Five Star Advanced Level I S R S Program. The Loss Control Program, made up of 179 employees who were divided up into 22 element teams, managed by 8 key team leaders, selected from Corporate, Operations, Quality, Engineering, Purchasing, HR, Maintenance Management, Finance, as well as Key Plant Union Leadership and Union Hourly Employees. The teams and their leadership were given Loss Control Program Mgmt. orientation and training to oversee and manage the 22 elements, audited quarterly. A comprehensive audit report of results was performed quarterly as well and presented to team leadership and executive management which laid the ground work for the development of objectives and goals, each and every quarter. The rest is history.
NOTE: The I S R S was a program that required a minimum of 3 to 7 year commitment for Leadership and Administration, Manning, Objective, Goals Setting and Budgeting, from the Board of Directors, Executives and Management and The Hard Working Front Line Supervision and Their Employees within the Corporation, regardless of the size. The corporation profits rose greatly throughout this period so much so it was seen by Grand Met, LLP as a real profit generator and given the green light to research new products and start acquisition of other businesses.
So regardless of your business type, size or location... Global Loss Control® can assist you and your business in the design, planning, development, training, program implementation and auditing of your internal Organizational Loss Control Management Program and Systems.
